Samsung unveiling Galaxy Tab 10.1 software update 8/3 in NYC

Galaxy_tab_update_invite_resize
Are there any Galaxy Tab 10.1 owning TouchWiz fans out there? If so, the update you've been anticipating is coming soon. We've just received an invite in our inbox for a Samsung event which promises to unveil a major software update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. After the media portion of the event, Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners are invited to bring their devices to receive the update on-site -- a really sweet deal for New York area owners. Unfortunately, there's no word of when the OTA update will be available for people who can't make the event. We're also not sure if the 4G LTE version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is eligible for this update or if it's only for the WiFi version. Check back here while we look into the matter.

The update includes the following:

  • Fully customizable Samsung TouchWiz UX with Live Panel and Mini Apps
  • Re-designed Samsung Media Hub user interface
  • Amazon Music Cloud Player, Amazon Kindle & Words with Friends applications
  • Enterprise Mobile solutions

WiMAX packing SPH-D710 passes through FCC, looks like Galaxy Within

Galaxy_within_fcc

Yesterday leaked photos of AT&T's Galaxy Attain inspired mixed opinions about the addition of a hardware keyboard. FCC documents about the CDMA/WiMAX Samsung SPH-D710 confirm that Sprint's SGS2 variant will not cause such debate. Aside from validating the previous leak, another detail gleaned from the documents is that the Galaxy Within is 5mm taller and 3mm wider than the OG Galaxy S II. Verizon to customers: Xoom not receiving 4G LTE upgrade until September

Xoom_lte_upgrade_email

Bad news, Verizon Xoom owners. You're going to have to hold out until September to enjoy 4G LTE goodness on your tablet. Perhaps Big Red needs more time to figure out the whole mail-in process? In the meantime, hang tight and play some Angry Birds, okay?

Sprint issues latest statement about AT&T's proposed merger with T-Mobile.

As a current Magenta customer who also loves to root for the underdog, I stand behind Sprint CEO Dan Hesse and his stand against the AT&T and T-Mobile merger. Check out their latest response to AT&T's recent submission to the FCC:

Sprint Statement on AT&T’s Latest Attempt to Justify Proposed Takeover of T-Mobile USA

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), July 26, 2011 - Late yesterday AT&T submitted to the Federal Communications Commission a new economic model meant to justify its proposed takeover of T-Mobile USA. In response, Vonya B. McCann, senior vice president of Government Affairs for Sprint (NYSE: S), issued the following statement:

"AT&T's 'do-over' submission is a last-ditch attempt to distract regulators, politicians and consumers from the fact that it has failed to provide any evidence that its proposed takeover of T-Mobile yields meaningful benefits. Its latest model, clearly constructed with predetermined results in mind, does nothing to change the negative consequences of the takeover for consumers in the form of higher prices, reduced innovation and decreased investment. The facts do not justify allowing that to happen, and we believe the ongoing investigations by the Department of Justice, the Federal Communications Commission and 11 state attorneys general and various state regulatory commissions will reach the same conclusions."

AT&T's Samsung Galaxy Attain revealed, Galaxy S II with keyboard

Att-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-keyboard

Samsung executive Shin Jong-kyun was recently quoted stating that Samsung's best-selling smartphone, the Galaxy S II, would be coming to the U.S. in August. Not surprisingly, photos of the U.S. models have recently begun leaking out. If the pictures are to be believed, Sprint's Galaxy Within is largely untouched, while AT&T's version, the Galaxy Attain, has a sliding QWERTY 4-row keyboard. Although this addition negates the svelte 8.49mm profile of the original Galaxy S II, we're sure hardware keyboard fans are pretty psyched. Keep it right here for more (concrete) updates about the forthcoming U.S. versions of the Galaxy S II.
